Five players shoot 64 in Monday qualifier – and don’t even qualify for Shell Houston Open

How low were scores during the Shell Houston Open’s Monday qualifier at Cypresswood Golf Club’s Tradition Course? So low that six players shot 8-under 64 Monday in Spring, Texas – and five of them didn’t even earn a spot in this week’s PGA Tour field.

Riley Arp of Scottsdale, Ariz., fired a 10-under 62 to capture medalist honors while PGA Tour member Andres Gonzalez and former Houston collegian Wes McClain grabbed two of the four spots with 63s.

That left six players to playoff for the fourth and final spot: Jason Gore, Roger Sloan, Brady Schnell, Martin Trainer, Sebastian Vazquez and Daniel Chopra.

Gore birdied the first playoff hole, sending the other five guys home empty handed.

Other notables missing out while shooting in the 60s: Cameron Wilson (65), Ryan Ruffels (66), Andrew Landry (66), Taylor Moore (67), Lee McCoy (67), Max Homa (67), Noah Goodwin (68), Kyle Thompson (68), Austin Cook (68), Derek Ernst (69) and Charlie Danielson (69).
